Springtime ☔

With March just around the corner, I am feeling happy about the coming of my favourite season... SPRING!

I am already noticing that the sun is up earlier and it is brighter later in the evening. Having longer hours of sunlight somehow makes it feel like I have more hours in the day. 🌞

Yes the weather in March can be unpredictable, but the approaching spring thaw brings about feelings of new beginnings. Spring means my windows open slightly to let fresh air in and rid the house of the stuffiness of being closed all winter. I begin to sweep away all the salt from the walkways and clean up my winter planters. My rain boots come out and my dog is happy for the longer walks. The crocus and tulip bulbs start emerging from the thawing ground and even the birds seem happy and sing more.

As the snow melts away, it is time to clean any debris that was hidden under the snow, including the spring thaw poop pick up! It is time to put out a couple of deck chairs because, even though it is still chilly, mornings on the deck are enjoyed with a fluffy blanket and a warm cup of coffee.

Barbecues are uncovered and the evening air gets filled with the glorious smell of delicious food. Neighbors I have not seen all winter emerge from their houses and friendly conversations pick up over the fence. After a long isolated winter, this is something I really look forward to!

The driveway gets washed of all the salt and I think, why not wash the car too! The TV is abandoned for evening strolls and by the time night falls, I am so exhausted from all the fresh air and adventures that sleep comes easily.

This year's spring "awakening" is extra special! As we slowly and carefully begin to emerge from the pandemic, I plan on spending more time appreciating the outdoors. I know this will benefit both my physical and mental health, and begin to reignite my connection with nature, my community and the world.

Spring... New beginnings!
