Nine months

Updated: Apr 26, 2022

The wait was long for those of us who were eager to see your entry into this world. For you, life in your mother's womb, a mere nine months, was not long at all. Nine months for you to grow from a tiny egg into a little person with all your perfectness and newness. With each month that passed, miraculous changes happened inside your body. Nine months to become a tiny complete human, who will one day change the world in your own amazing way.

You slept and wiggled and flipped in your quiet darkness. At first, the kicks went unnoticed. You were still too small. As months passed, there were small, tiny flutters that mommy could feel. Quick daddy I am kicking! But you were too small for them to be felt on the outside. Then suddenly, daddy could feel you move too! You had grown so big that your movements could even be seen on the outside of your mommy's tummy by your siblings.

You loved the sound of your mommy's heartbeat. It soothed you to listen to the muffled sound of mommy and daddy talking to you, telling you they loved you. You could hear your older brothers as they played nearby and feel the warmth when they cuddled your mommy. You could sense the love that surrounded you and your family, even in your darkness.

When will the baby come? Your big brother grew anxious, as did we all. Mommy grew tired, her feet swollen and her back sore. No longer able to see her toes or sleep comfortably, she wished for your arrival.

We waited. In anxious delight. We waited.

When the time was right, your journey began. Everyone was so excited that you were going to arrive. Daddy wanted to meet his new child. Mommy was excited, anxious, and beginning to feel the pain that accompanies childbirth. Nothing this miraculous could come so easily.

Mommy worked hard to ensure your safe passage. Each contraction helped her body prepare for your decent. The pressure and tightening came like the waves on the ocean. Slowing, pushing, and pulling, moving you closer towards your entry into this world. It was long and exhausting for you both. The hours of waiting turned into days. Mommy grew more tired unsure why things were not moving faster. She had done this before. But everyone's journey is unique. So, she waited.

When the time was right, mommy pushed and rested, pushed and rested. Then suddenly, your slippery body was pushed out of the silence of her womb, down the birth canal into a bright, new world. You were born!

Your first cry. Your mommy and daddy cried, and smiled and loved you, unconditionally. They have loved you from the moment they learned of your existence.

You are beautiful. Your face is squishy from your tiresome descent. Your tiny body is wrinkled, red and naked. You are perfect. They place you on your mommy's chest, and she cries again. Tears of joy. That new baby smell she will never get enough of.

Daddy gets to cut the cord. It has connected you to mommy for these past nine months to help you grow and thrive and keep you alive. Your mommy and daddy and those that love you will now take on this precious responsibility.

You are weighed, measured, and examined and mommy waits, anxious to have you back in her arms. You are swaddled, and you feel safe again like you did when you were cradled in her womb. Mommy and daddy gaze down at your tiny face and you up at theirs. Even though you cannot clearly see them, you know them, they are your parents. You have listened to their voices and your mommy's heartbeat for months. The rest of the world disappears and there is only the love you have always felt from the beginning. Mommy and daddy cry again.

Your big brother is the first to be told. He screamed with joy when he heard of your arrival. He could not wait to meet you and have mommy and daddy home too. He was so happy; he too has waited. Everyone else cried, smiled and celebrated the glorious news of your birth.

But for now, it is just the three of you, and you cherish that.

Life forever changed. As they did with your siblings, your parents will put your safety and well-being above their own. There will be times when they forget to eat and will walk and rock you for hours in the middle of the night and wonder if they will ever sleep again. All you ask of them is to be loved, and you are. And you feel it.

The Earth has been blessed. A tiny perfect child has been delivered onto our planet.

Welcome my beautiful granddaughter Chloe Maureen♥

Above all... Nana will love you forever
