Over the past few summers, I have had the privilege of enjoying a weeks' vacation at a cottage close to the beach. I am now officially one of the people who say, "there is nothing like cottage life!"
Once at the cottage, time seems to stop. There is no mechanical alarm to wake up to. Instead, I am awakened by the beautiful squeals of laughter from my children and grandchildren.
Gone is the worry of morning work emails. There is no pressing schedule to be kept here. Morning coffee can last until noon if I want. My only must, is to enjoy the beach as much and as long as possible.
There is no regimented meal plan. I eat when I'm hungry and with all the fresh air, being hungry happens often and everything seems to taste better at the cottage!
There is no strict sleep schedule. I can sleep when I want, wake up when I want and most definitely take naps when I want. And napping on the porch outside is highly recommended.
There is no dress attire I must follow. T-shirts and shorts, bathing suits or pajamas are perfect attire anytime of the day. Ninety-five percent of the day is spent barefoot and sandy.
There is no lack of fun. My days are spent with family. Playing games, doing crafts, reading, and an overflowing of love and laughter are enjoyed by all who come along.
There is abundant sharing. What's mine is yours. We all eat and drink what we want, borrow from each other and help when and where we can.
There is plenty of exercise. My many daily walks with the grandkids and my doggy keep me fit and let me take in all the beautiful views. Our daily walks also let me experience the extreme friendliness and happy smiles of many other tourists or locals we meet along the way.
Then there is the beach, one of my favorite places. I love the sand in my toes, the building of sandcastles and playing in the water with my grandchildren. After a busy morning frolicking at the beach, there is also nothing more tranquil than relaxing on the sand. I close my eyes and let the sun warm my face while listening to the waves hit the shore, the seagulls overhead and the laughter of children. There is no better meditation recording than this. Did I mention that I love the beach?
I feel abundantly grateful for a wonderful week away. For the luxury of a beautiful cottage to stay in. For the generosity of others who treated me to meals out and drinks out. Mostly I am grateful for the time I have to spend with those I love. There is truly something magical about vacationing in a cottage by the beach.
Goodbye to another year of cottage life... until next summer. Above all... make sure to enjoy every minute of your vacation!
